The Cintuxtoi are those who came before all — the primordial Dêuoi whose presence shaped the beginning of Bitus. Our word comes from the Gaulish root cintux- meaning “first” or “foremost,” combined with the plural suffix -toi, which denotes a group or collective. So together it literally translates to “those who are first” — the primordial beings. They are not just ancient; they are the rhythm upon which all later life unfolds. They are the spark and the silence, the sky and the soil, the ever-turning sun and the guiding moon. To honor them is to root ourselves in the first breath of the cosmos.
Whispers from Aidnoa (Mythic Reflections)
Among the Cintuxtoi we honor:
- Dêiuos – The shining Sky Father, embodiment of Aððus (Right Order).
- Litauiâ – The great Earth Mother, foundation of life and the breath of all that grows.
- Sonnos – The radiant Sun, whose fire awakens and empowers.
- Lugrâ – The Moon, guide of time, whose phases shape our months and sacred work.
- Cauaroi – The Giants, these are the forces of chaos and disorder.
Each of these Dêuoi moves through our Bessus not as distant gods, but as ever-present forces. They are honored not only in story and rite, but through how we live in harmony with the cycles they began.
In the path of the Cintuxtoi, we find both our beginning and our belonging.
At the heart of Bessus Nouiogalation is the desire to help people reconnect — with the land, with spirit, and with the living rhythms of the cosmos. While we offer shared devotions to many Dêuoi attested in the ancient record or known through living gnosis, we also honor that each path is personal. Some may approach the Dêuoi in a deeply animistic way, seeing them not only as divine personalities but as living forces of nature — beings that one experiences as spirit, presence, and process.
That is why we include the Cintuxtoi, the First Ones. These are primordial powers — Earth, Sky, Sun, and Moon — whose presence is universal, whose breath is felt by all, whether named or unnamed. For those who do not resonate with the tribal deities of the Gauls, or who feel drawn more to the great elemental spirits of the world, the Cintuxtoi offer a grounding way to connect.
We invite all practitioners to listen, to reach, and to discover. Your devotions need not look like anyone else’s. These First Ones may be your primary guides, or companions to others you meet along your journey. BNG provides the framework — you bring the living fire.
